Janet wins at the Soul Train Music Awards: Busta & Janet's highly-stylized romp "What's It Gonna Be?!" won yet another award for Best Music Video this time at the 14th Annual Soul Train Music Awards which took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Janet wasn't able to attend the show, but Busta gleefully accepted it in her honor and adulated her in the process.

Janet wraps up "Nutty Professor 2": Janet has just finished wrapping up "Nutty Proffesor 2: The Klumps." It's the continuing saga about the kooky on-goings of loveable Sherman Klump. Kidspotting Y2K: Lately, Janet's "Kids" (her celebrated background dancers) have been appearing everywhere on television as of late. Michael Andrews (dancer in the Velvet Rope tour) appears in Destiny's Child's new video "Say My Name." Also, Tyce appears in a Visa commercial as a broadway 7-'s disco dancer. Keep your eyes glued to the TV set!

Janet named one of the top artists of the decade: Billboard magazine has named Janet Jackson the number 2 artist of the decade. She also holds the title of number 2 female artist of the decade. Congratulations Janet!

More Billboard Mania: Janet's on 5th place in "Top R&B/Hip Hop Artists of the Decade" chart. On the "Top Pop Artists of the Decade (By Year)," she's on 1990 (2nd), 1993 (6th), 1994 (4th), and 1998 (9th).

On the "Top Pop Singles Of The Decade," she's on there with TTWLG (17th), Again (56th), and Together Again (74th). On the year-by-year chart of the same category, she's on there on 1996 (Together Again, 6th) and 1993 (TTWLG, 4th). On the "Top Pop Albums Of The Decade," she's on there with janet. (31th). Velvet Rope Video Rumors Untrue: Lately, there have been reports of a Velvet Rope video compliation being released in February. This turned out to be untrue. The rumor was started on the internet (as always).


1999

Janet appears at MTV Video Music Awards: Janet appeared on the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards on 9.9.99. She eloquently presented the award for Best Dance Video. Winner Ricky Martin brought Tina Landon (Janet's choreographer) onstage halfway through his speech. Tina later went on to thank Janet for giving her the opportunity to work with Ricky -- both Janet & Tina hugged each other elatedly.

Janet co-wins hip hop award: Janet along with Busta Rhymes won the Source award for Best Hip Hop Video for "What's It Gonna Be?!" Busta & Janet both went on stage and gave their respective speeches to a crowd of adulated onlookers.

Janet exhibit comes to a close: Janet Jackson's exhibit at the Museum of Radio & Television had came to a close September 6, 1999. The exhibit had featured a 90-minute film on Janet's musical & acting career. It also showed many scenes from the late 70s sitcom "Good Times" where Janet played Penny.

Janet goes to the Wild Wild West: On June 28, Janet attended the opening of "Wild Wild West" starring Will Smith and Salma Hayek at the Mann's Village Theater in Westwood, California.

Janet & Shawnette's Night On The Town: Recently, Janet and Shawnette Heard (one of the Kids) went to an Allure Magazine party thrown by editor Linda Wells at the Bottino. Janet had a wonderful time at the party. She bonded with actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

Janet exhibit at the Museum: The Museum of Televison and Radio are presenting a screening of "Janet Jackson - From Good Times to Great Videos" at their museums in New York and LA between July 2 and September 5.
